The Emscherkunst (spelling EMSCHERKUNST) is an international art exhibition in the public space of the northern Ruhr area , established since 2010. In March 2019, the decision was made to continue the sculpture trail as the Emscherkunstweg .

subjects

Sorcerer's apprentice , a 35 meter high steel sculpture reminiscent of a dancing power pole. Emscherkunst 2013.

Thematically, the art triennial is to follow the ideas of the International Building Exhibition Emscher Park (1989–1999) and accompany the structural change in this region and the Emscher conversion , the largest renaturation project in Europe, until 2020. The open Emscher sewer will then be converted back into a natural river course.

Each exhibition should also deal with currently relevant topics. Florian Matzner is the curator . From an artistic point of view, the exhibitions place value on a mix of international, national and local artists from the various fields of fine arts, architecture, design and visual art.

places

Emscherkunst exhibition spaces are unusual places along the Emscher, such as former industrial wasteland, former sewage treatment plants or undiscovered natural areas. These previously inaccessible places are only opened to the population through art. The exhibition area is expanding bit by bit. In 2010 the Emscher Island between Oberhausen and Castrop-Rauxel was the focus of the exhibition. In 2013 it then went further west towards Duisburg and Dinslaken with the Emscher estuary. By 2020, the entire New Emschertal should be able to be experienced from a new perspective through partly permanent and partly temporary art installations. The aim is to redevelop an area of 865 km² for the population.

partner

The exhibitions have the three cooperation partners Emschergenossenschaft , Kulturhauptstadt Ruhr.2010 and the Regionalverband Ruhr (RVR). The exhibitions were and are financially supported by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia . as well as through private and public sponsors.
