Emser Salz has been the brand for the salt that is extracted from the hot mineral spring in the spa town of Bad Ems since 1925 . The manufacturer is SIEMENS & Co. Healing Water and Spring Products from the Bad Ems State Baths GmbH & Co. KG .

Manufacturing

One gram of Emser salt is obtained from 350 ml of thermal water by evaporation . The salt contains more than 30 different minerals and trace elements . The main components are sodium , chloride and hydrogen carbonate ions.

Application and effectiveness

Emser salt is used for diseases of the upper respiratory tract . It is used by inhaling the salty water or by rinsing the nose with the dissolved salt.

According to the manufacturer, the mineral salt complex has an expectorant and anti-inflammatory effect and promotes wound healing in the upper respiratory tract. The particularly high proportion of hydrogen carbonate ions and its balanced mixture of various mineral salts are stated as special features of Emser Salt .

A study has shown that it is more effective than table salt in patients with chronic bronchitis, but no explanation of the effect could be found.

Emser pastilles

The Emser pastilles made from the salt have also been protected as a trademark since 1925. These are used on the one hand for mild, cold-related sore throats, but on the other hand they are also used by speakers, barkers and singers. By sucking the pastilles, the mucous membrane of the throat is moistened and soothed.
