The Frisian Zealand around 1300

The Emsigerland is a historical landscape on the western edge of East Friesland directly on the Wadden Sea and covers a wide area around the city of Emden . The Emsigerland borders in the north on the Federgau , in the northeast on the Brookmerland , in the east on the Moormerland and in the south on the Rheiderland .

The Emsigerland emerged from a historical state community, the Emsgau , whose economic focus it formed. In contrast to the rest of East Friesland, there was no system of chieftains , the Emsgo countries and thus also the Emsigerland remained autonomous. This changed in 1379 when the region was taken over by the tom Brok , whose heir was the Cirksena .
