Encyclopaedia of Religion and Ethics

The Encyclopaedia of Religion and Ethics ( ERE ; Encyclopedia for Religion and Ethics ) is a twelve-volume reference work (plus index volume) which was edited by the Scottish pastor James Hastings (1852-1922) with the help of John A. Selbie and other scholars and between Published in 1908 and 1927. It is the first major religious studies manual of the time and consists of contributions from many contributors. In addition to religious subjects, it includes thousands of articles on other subjects including folklore, mythology, rituals, anthropology, psychology, etc. It was originally published by T. & T. Clark in Edinburgh and Charles Scribner's Sons in the United States.
