Endocrine surgery

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Endocrine surgery is a specialization within surgery and deals with the operative therapy of diseases of the endocrine organs such as thyroid , parathyroid , adrenal gland , endocrine pancreas and diffuse neuroendocrine system according to Friedrich Feyrter . The surgery of the pituitary gland and the endocrine genital organs ( ovaries , testes ), however, remains in the hands of neurosurgery and gynecology or urology .

The importance of this specialization is seen in the close cooperation of the surgeons working there with endocrinologists , nuclear medicine specialists , pediatricians and other clinically and scientifically working specialists. In Germany, a corresponding subgroup (working group) of the German Society for Surgery was founded in Marburg in 1986 (HDRöher) and is now active as a subgroup of the German Society for Visceral Surgery. International cooperation is particularly expected from the European Society for Endocrine Surgery (ESES) and has been carried out for years in the International Society for Endocrine Surgeons (IAES). In addition, sub-groups are increasingly being formed that deal with special issues such as multiple endocrine tumors (MEN-1, MEN-2), neuroendocrine carcinomas (NEC) and insulinomas , and that offer scientific and clinical events and collaborations.
