Nippon Oil Corporation ( NOC ; Japanese 新 日本 石油 株式会社 , Shin Nihon Sekiyu Kabushiki kaisha ) is a Japanese oil and chemical company listed on the Nikkei 225 . The company is active in the fields of oil production and import as well as the refining of crude oil; the manufacture and sale of petroleum products.
The products are sold under the ENEOS brand as a trunk word between Energy and Neos (Greek for "new"), which is also the brand name of the petroleum filling stations.
Nippon Oil Corporation is the largest petroleum company based in Japan, and in recent years it has expanded to other countries. 4,222 people are employed by the company.
history
The company was founded on May 10, 1888 under the name Yūgen Sekinin Nihon Sekiyu Kaisha ( 有限 責任 日本 石油 会 社 , English Nippon Oil ). In January 1894 the name was changed to Nihon Sekiyu KK ( 日本 石油 株式会社 ). After the takeover of the oil company Mitsubishi Sekiyu KK ( 三菱 石油 株式会社 , English Mitsubishi Oil ) on April 1, 1999, the name was changed to Nisseki-Mitsubishi KK ( 日 石 三菱 株式会社 ). On June 27, 2002 the company finally got its current name.
Nippon Oil Corporation is one of the core companies in the Mitsubishi Group.
