The company manufactures and sells vehicle traction batteries, stationary batteries, chargers, power generators and battery accessories.

EnerSys vehicle propulsion batteries are used, for example, in electric forklift trucks as well as in other commercial electric vehicles.

Stationary batteries are used in the telecommunications and electrical utility industries, in uninterruptible power supplies, and many other applications that require electrical power in standby mode.

The company is also active in "secondary market" services and customer service in over 100 countries through its sales and manufacturing locations around the world.

Hawker GmbH Hagen

The German battery manufacturer Hawker in Hagen is part of the EnerSys Group. The company is the successor to the main factory of the oldest German battery manufacturer, Varta AG . Varta (acronym for sales, charging, repair of portable accumulators) produced accumulators and batteries in Hagen . Today's plant was founded by Adolph Müller on December 27, 1887 in the Wehringhausen district of Hagen . Hawker is now considered to be particularly experienced in the field of conventional lead batteries.

Recent company history

In mid-2017 it became known that the Federal Cartel Office had imposed a fine of 23 million euros on Hawker for illegal price fixing. The Hawker management had agreed on a joint metal control surcharge (MTZ) with Hoppecke batteries GmbH from Brilon . The MTZ is intended to protect manufacturers in the event of fluctuations in the price of raw materials and is incorporated almost automatically into the sale price of products. However, it is illegal for suppliers to coordinate with one another and introduce a defacto MTZ standard.
