The sculpture Energie by Günter Steinmann was commissioned in 2007 and after the new east entrance of Messe Essen was rebuilt in 2016 in the Essen district of Rüttenscheid, it was moved to the south again.

meaning

The sculpture energy was commissioned by the operator of Messe Essen, Messe Essen GmbH. In front of Messehaus Ost, adjacent to the Grugahalle , it was intended to symbolize the position of the city of Essen, which in the Ruhr area is both a city with a high proportion of greenery and a city of culture. In 2010, Essen and the Ruhr area became the European Capital of Culture .

The sculpture, made of aluminum and stainless steel, was made by a metal construction company in Bochum . The Essen-based aluminum manufacturer Trimet Aluminum appears as sponsor .

Including the base, the work of art is seven meters high. Its own base measures 3.2 meters square, that of the base is four meters. The sculpture weighs around two tons.

An electrical company in Essen installed the LED lighting technology, which illuminated the sculpture in different colors in the evening.
