Energy Fuels is a US uranium mining company founded in 2006. The company describes itself as the leading uranium producer in the United States. The triurane octoxide (U 3 O 8 ) produced can be fluorinated to uranium hexafluoride (UF 6 ) at the company's customers , which is required for large-scale uranium enrichment . Energy Fuels still has vanadium deposits and sees itself as the largest producer of vanadium in the United States. The vanadium, which is mined as a by-product in the uranium mines, is processed along with the uranium in the company's own facility in White Mesa , Utah . However, processing takes place separately in its own production cycle. 150 people are employed at the White Mesa site. Between 2011 and 2015, the White Mesa facility accounted for an average of 21% of total US uranium production. The White Mesa Mill is the last conventional uranium mill in the USA.
