Angel Reimers
Engel Reimers († 1606 in Hamburg ) was a woman who was executed on charges of witchcraft .
Death sentence
Engel Reimers presumably worked as a healing woman in Holstein . From the 16th century onwards, the Hamburg council increasingly tried to persecute these so-called Wickers in order to protect professional doctors. This lasted in Hamburg until the end of the 17th century, from which time these women were no longer portrayed as sorceresses but as deliberate cheaters who wanted to enrich themselves.
The city's high court sentenced Engel Reimers to death by fire on March 14, 1606. The court also ruled that all Reimers customers should be punished by court administrators.
