Farhad Vladi (* 1945 in Hamburg ) is a German businessman and international island broker .

He is based in Hamburg and Halifax (Nova Scotia) in Canada and has both German and Canadian citizenship. He is the founder and president of Vladi Private Islands and is considered the most important international island broker.

Life and work

Vladi's father was Iranian and his mother German. His brother Firouz Vladi is a geologist. Both are grandsons of the businessman Hassan Vladi, who like her father imported carpets, leather and liquorice to Hamburg. He studied economics at the University of Hamburg and completed a trainee program at Deutsche Bank . After reading a newspaper report about a man who had bought an island for 5000 DM, he began to collect information about available islands. In 1971 he sold the first island, the Seychelles -Insel cousin Iceland , rich in three Hamburg. In the same year he went self-employed and founded Vladi Private Islands to sell and rent private islands. After selling 50 islands, Vladi opened an office in Canada in 1976. An office in New Zealand was added later. By 2016, his company had sold 2,650 islands worldwide. He owns Forsyth Island off the New Zealand coast.

In 2012, Vladi bought Bowen House in Wellington (New Zealand's capital), the building on the corner of Lambton Quay, for $ 62 million. The New Zealand First , Green Party and Māori Party have their offices there. In 2014, the Port Authority of Halifax appointed Vladi as the Port of Honor Ambassador for the Port of Halifax . As Honorary Consul of the Seychelles in Hamburg, he is responsible for the consular district of Hamburg, Bremen and Lower Saxony.

Vladi has compiled an archive with more than 12,000 islands worldwide. Of dishes the US and Canada, he is the consultant for private island Affairs ordered been and also rated for the Irish Government islands.

He owns the Dr. Götze Land & Karte at Hamburger Alstertor , since 2019 another at Hamburg Airport , as well as Halifax maps & ducks , also a geographic bookstore.

With 3.3%, Vladi holds a minority stake in the private Hamburg television broadcaster Hamburg 1 . He owns two travel agencies in Hamburg and Nova Scotia and has published several books.

Vladi works in non-profit organizations, including as a board member on the World Future Council . He is involved in the non-governmental organization MapAction, which specializes in providing maps for humanitarian emergencies. With the help of business people and the TV presenter Jörg Pilawa , Vladi founded the German part and was appointed First Ambassador of MapAction.

Vladi is curator of the Philharmonic of Nations by Justus Frantz and Honorary President of the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
