Firouz Vladi (* 1948 in Hamburg ) is a German historian , geologist and author .

Life

Vladi has Persian ancestors who immigrated to Germany in the 1920s and 1930s and belonged to the Iranian merchant class in Hamburg. Firouz Vladi is the youngest of four children. His father was Iranian and his mother German. He first visited the Johanneum Hamburg , where he graduated from high school in 1968 and then studied geology . From 1979 he worked as a qualified geologist for the district of Osterode . His tasks as planning and office manager in environmental administrative law included raw material extraction and renaturation, disposal technology and nature conservation . In 2008 he retired. Vladi lives in Osterode , is married and has a son.

His brother Farhad Vladi is an international island broker . Both are grandsons of the businessman Hassan Vladi, who like her father imported carpets, leather and liquorice to Hamburg. Her father co-founded the Islamic-Iranian burial ground in Hamburg's Ohlsdorf cemetery in 1941 and, together with partners, laid the foundation stone for the Imam Ali Mosque on the Outer Alster in Hamburg in 1960 . In 2016 Firouz Vladi founded an association for the preservation of family graves on the Islamic-Iranian burial ground.

engagement

Firouz Vladi works in professional associations of geosciences, regional history and nature and environmental protection. In addition, he regularly writes specialist essays and has published several books. For Easter or adult education , he conducts geoscientific study trips to Canada and Iran, among others.

Vladi leads excursions through the Harz gypsum karst landscape and lectures on the subject. He already explored the area with companions during his studies in the early 1970s, which led to further investigations of the unicorn cave . He took part in a student research project on the gypsum karst landscape Hainholz near Düna , which improved the protection of the area. In 1989 Firouz Vladi started the Karst hiking trail in the GDR, which was around 50 km long at that time, as part of the small border traffic . Due to his plans, the hiking trail was extended to the west after the fall of the Wall , giving it a length of 233 km.

In 1997, Vladi co-founded the history workshop “Working Group Searching for Traces in the Southern Harz Region”. The task of the association, which among other things set up memorial sites at former concentration camps , is to document the Nazi injustice in the Osterode district. In 2011, on the 250th anniversary of the destruction of Scharzfels Castle , Vladi initiated a working group dedicated to the historical documentation, publication and touristic enhancement of the castle ruins.

As a Muslim , Firouz Vladi is involved in the Islamic Working Group Harz eV , a platform for interreligious dialogue. He is one of the founders of Schura Niedersachsen , was temporarily managing director and until 2016 public relations officer. He represented the Shura at the round table on Islamic religious instruction in the Lower Saxony Ministry of Education . In this role, for example, Vladi strongly advocated that Muslim teachers should also be able to teach with headscarves in the future.
