The Engelburg in Bad Zurzach is a Zurzach exhibition center from the Renaissance with late Gothic elements, such as the donkey back portal , in the Oberflecken of Bad Zurzach in the canton of Aargau in Switzerland .

history

The house was built in 1577 according to the inscription above the entrance portal. It has a large vaulted cellar that was once used to store goods for the Zurzach trade fair . It is a three-storey quarry stone wall construction under a bent historical roof structure with plain tile roofing , with corner pillars and a high base and separated from the upper floors by a coffin cornice . The north-facing facade is adorned with a white architectural painting. The south facade has a two-story wooden arbor as a staircase.

Probably built during the Counter-Reformation as the apartment of a canon of the Verena monastery, it was also designed as an exhibition center. From 1638 to 1830 the house served as a reformed parsonage, and the reformed school (schoolchildren = angels) was also housed here until 1825 (the “Catholic” school was in the provost's office). In 1812 the reformed pastor Nabholz opened a country school teachers' institute, which was closed again in 1813. The denominational separation of the schools was lifted in 1865.

In the modern era, apartments were rented and the exterior was professionally renovated. After the acquisition by the entrepreneur Hans Jürg Domenig , the house was extensively renovated, there is an advertising company in it, other rooms are rented.
