Life

Engelhard von Murach came from the von Murach family , who descended from ministerials at Obermurach Castle . Engelhard worked during the time of the Chancellor monastery reform , which he was opposed to. In 1394 he was elected abbot of Reichenbach Monastery by a large majority. However, he could not take office because the Pope pushed for the reforms to be implemented. Instead, Johann Strolenfelser was appointed abbot. Even King Ruprecht was active in this matter. After the reforms were completed, Engelhard von Murach became abbot in Reichenbach Monastery in 1431.

According to tradition, Abbot Engelhard wrote astronomical writings and developed astronomical instruments himself.
