The Engelkirche is an Evangelical Lutheran church in Hinterhermsdorf that characterizes the townscape. Its name, the Angel Church, which is unusual for Protestant churches, comes from the baroque baptismal angel that adorns the interior.

description

The Engelkirche is a hall church with a straight end and arched windows. It has a gable roof with a turret, which is adorned by a lantern . The interior is characterized by a baroque three-winged age (probably by a Bohemian master) from 1681 to 1692 and by an equally baroque baptismal angel, who gave the church its name. The organ from 1846 was built by Samuel Heinrich Herold.

history

The Engelkirche was built after 1688 on a hill above Hinterhermsdorf. The builder was Hans Hamann from Tharandt . In 1846 numerous alterations were made, which were largely corrected in a new alteration in 1939. Restoration work began in the late 1970s and was completed in 1988. An extensive external renovation was carried out with the help of funds from the EU, the state of Saxony and the Ev.-Luth. State Church of Saxony started in 2011 and completed in June 2013.
