Engineers for 2 ° C Target (Eng. "Engineers to achieve the 2-degree target", also e42 (pronounced e for two) or Engineers for 2 Degrees Target ) is a global movement of engineers (including masters, bachelors and technicians as well as students and trainees in technical professions) in order to still achieve the 2-degree target of the United Nations decided at the World Climate Conference 2015 (COP 21) in Paris .

The e42 movement supports the Fridays for Future initiative by particularly motivating engineers to use climate-friendly technologies.

The e42 was founded at the suggestion of the doctor and cabaret artist Eckart von Hirschhausen , who called for such a grouping in addition to the numerous For Future initiatives ( Scientists for Future , Parents for Future , Architects for Future) in a greeting to the “First Kassel Energy Management Days” .

Initiated by this appeal, the initiators Peter Otto ( Kassel ) and Robert Weicht ( State Office for the Environment Rhineland-Palatinate , Mainz ) founded the "Engineers for 2 ° C Target" on September 18, 2019 .

aims

Engineers for 2 ° C Target aims to better link and moderate existing initiatives and forums to strengthen development partnerships in industry and application-oriented science, and to build bridges in politics and the public. The participating engineers are united by the conviction that all of them together already know and can do more than each individual is aware of, in order to get closer to the climate target with technical means.

The movement sees itself less as just another of many forums, but rather as a platform that creates synapses and enables concrete technical solutions that trigger market innovations. Here, technical and organizational energy and resource efficiency measures are in the foreground.

Achieving the climate goals and strengthening the German economy in international competition are two goals that go hand in hand.
