Enrique Arocena Olivera

Enrique Arocena Olivera (born June 26, 1933 in Montevideo , Uruguay ) is a Uruguayan economic historian .

Life

Arocena Olivera studied economics and international relations at the Universidad de la República (UdelaR) and the Johns Hopkins University . He was a research assistant at the Washington Center for Foreign Policy from 1961 to 1964, and then worked for six years in the international field at the United Nations until 1970 . From 1970 to 1976 he then headed the UN mission in Berlin . 1971 to 1972 he also conducted research at the University of Sussex at the local Institute for Economic Development. From 1978 to 1985 he taught Uruguayan economic history as a university professor at the UdelaR. From 1976 to 1987 he was also the business editor of the Uruguayan newspaper El País . This was followed by the presidency of the Academia Nacional de Economía del Uruguay , which lasted until 2000 , before he subsequently took over the vice-presidency there. Other press activities included his collaboration with the La Prensa newspaper and the Argentine magazine Fundación . At the beginning of the 21st century, Arocena Olivera taught at the Universidad de Montevideo .
