Enrique Fernández

Enrique Fernández (* 1953 in Melo ) is a Uruguayan director .

Initially employed at the Uruguayan National Film Library after completing his school career, he later taught literature. Finally he found his professional home in various areas of film. He worked as an assistant director, cameraman and director, but also wrote scripts. He was not only active in Uruguay, but also in Germany. Editing of documentaries and short films was also part of his diverse field of activity. In 1997, Diego Arsuaga filmed Fernández's script Otario .

His first own film is called El baño del Papa , which he directed together with César Charlone . This work, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2007 and was awarded the Grand Prix of the Cine en Construcción section , has received numerous other prizes, such as the Premio del pubblico e Premio della critica nella sezione Film Latini at the Gramado Film Festival 2007, the Premio Miglior Sceneggiatura of the Huelva Latin American Film Festival 2007 and the Premio Orizzonti at the San Sebastian International Film Festival 2007. He also received an award at the São Paulo International Film Festival 2007 with the Premio della Giuria Internazionale .
