from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ensemble Neue Horizonte Bern is an ensemble for contemporary music and specializes in particular in works of the North American avant-garde , composed programs and conceptual music.

Career

The Ensemble Neue Horizonte Bern was founded in 1968 by Urs Peter Schneider . The ensemble's first concert in Switzerland performed previously unknown works by John Cage , Earle Brown , Morton Feldman and Christian Wolff . The ensemble has retained this focus on the New York School to this day. In 1982 the first European complete performance of the Song Books by John Cage was organized, in 1992 that of the Burdocks by Christian Wolff. In addition, there is the classic modern and avant-garde repertoire of the last 60 years with a focus on own works.

The ensemble consists mostly of musicians who are active both composing and interpreting. This results in a natural approach to conceptual types of music and improvisation. In addition to Schneider, four other musicians have been members of the ensemble since the founding years.
