The Ensemble Paulinum is a chamber choir founded in 2009 at St. Paulus in Worms .

General

The choir performs at national concerts and by invitation at festivals ( Nibelungen Festival , Kultursommer Rheinland-Pfalz, Wunderhör, Vokalstern, German Mozart Festival, etc.). With the instrumental ensemble Pulchra Musica, the Ensemble Paulinum has its own baroque orchestra made up of specialists. The ensemble also has a permanent instrumental partner in the Camerata instrumentale for the performance of works in a modern mood.

In addition to the well-known trade fair compositions and oratorios by Bach, Handel, Mozart and Haydn, the vocal ensemble primarily focuses on the re-performance of forgotten works in historical performance practice. Sound composers such as Mattheson, Fux, Wagenseil, Caldara, Rathgeber, Cafaro or Brixi can be found regularly on the programs. The formation has now brought more than 20 works to light again in modern world premieres, including compositions by Graupner, Heinichen and Telemann. Deutschlandfunk portrayed the choir in 2016 as "Choir of the Week", with ZDF the ensemble produced Haydn's organ solo mass in 2009 as part of a television service, the Diocese of Mainz presented the choir in a documentary film on the occasion of the highlights of the anniversary year "200 Years of Rheinhessen" at the performance of Bach's Mass in B minor accompanied. Well-known composers also regularly write for the vocal ensemble, so the singers, under Bonath's direction, performed the Liebeslieder.messe by Prof. Dr. Birger Petersen at the world premiere.

occupation

The choir is recruited from the student environment of the music academies in Mainz, Mannheim and Frankfurt and has set itself the goal of presenting music from the 17th and 18th centuries with a small cast and in historical performance practice. Christian J. Bonath is the artistic director.
