Reverberation
The dereverberation (engl. Dereverberation) is the removal of reverberation from a speech signal. It is used in signal processing .
Procedure
The processes of reverberation can be divided into two groups:
- Reverberation cancellation
- Reverberation suppression
The reverberation of speech and audio signals is important for improving hearing aids and for the operation of automatic speech recognition systems in reverberant environments . In this case, those cases are critical in which the speech signals are picked up in the far field or diffuse field of the microphones . These must be described as the convolution of the original signals with quite long, initially unknown room impulse responses , whereby the inverse filters cannot be implemented easily. However, when using several microphones, conclusions can be drawn about the unfiltered original signal through suitable filtering and combination of the microphone signals.
Current research topics are “Methods for improving reverberated speech signals (de-reverberation)” and “Binaural de-reverberation for use in digital hearing aids and stereo telephony”.
