The removal of pyrogens from a solution (usually injectable drugs) is called depyrogenation .

Bacterial pyrogens include endotoxins and exotoxins . The former include lipopolysaccharides (LPS) found in the outer cell wall of Gram-negative bacteria. These LPS are released during cell lysis .
