Disinfestation
The disinfestation (disinfestation or disinfestation) is the destruction of animal pests . Disinfestation aims at the elimination of all disease-transmitting organisms or organisms that are undesirable for other reasons of hygiene. Particular attention is usually paid to eliminating insects, such as head lice , and rodents, such as rats .
While disinfection is aimed at eliminating microorganisms , disinfestation aims at eliminating organisms that can be seen with the naked eye. The German legislator defines here even more precisely: According to § 18 Infection Protection Act, the term “disinfestation” is only used when combating non-vertebrate animals .
