Developing regions in Nepal (English names)

The developing regions of Nepal were five regions to which the fourteen administrative zones (Nepali: विकास क्षेत्र - Bikas Kshetra) were combined for development policy reasons. However, this subdivision was of minor importance for the administration.

The five developing regions were:

  • Development region east (पुर्वाञ्चल विकास क्षेत्र - development region of the eastern zones)
  • Central development region (मध्यमाञ्चल विकास क्षेत्र - development region of the central zones)
  • West development region (पश्चिमाञ्चल विकास क्षेत्र - development region of the western zones)
  • Midwest development region (मध्य पश्चिमाञ्चल विकास क्षेत्र - development region of the midwestern zones)
  • Far West Development Region (सुदुर पश्चिमाञ्चल विकास क्षेत्र - Development Region of the Far West Zones)

The direction designations were chosen from Kathmandu , which was in the central development region.

With the constitution of September 20, 2015 and the resulting reorganization of Nepal into provinces , the developing regions were dissolved.
