The Enzensberger star is a three-dimensional algebraic surface named after the writer Hans Magnus Enzensberger . The German Mathematicians Association (DMV) presented its media prizes on November 10, 2006 in the Leibniz Hall of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities and awarded the 6th degree polynomial

given the same name in honor of Enzensberger.

The surface has the shape of a star with six points that are formed along the four-fold axes of symmetry of an octahedron . It has the same symmetry as the octahedron or the hexahedron (cube) . The tips are connected to one another by elegantly curved surfaces. The factor 400 gives the star a pleasing shape. The Enzensberger star primarily has the character of a work of art and is of lesser mathematical importance.
