Enzo Mainardi

Enzo Mainardi (born July 30, 1898 in Ticengo , † November 16, 1983 in Cremona ) was an Italian poet and painter of Futurism .

He joined the Futurist movement in 1914 during an interventionist demonstration in Milan where he first met Filippo Tommaso Marinetti .

Mainardi volunteered for military service when the First World War broke out , was wounded during a battle at Caposile and retired as unfit for military service. After the end of the war, he joined the political futurist party. In 1919 and 1920 he studied philosophy and modern literature in Grenoble .

In 1818 he created his first futuristic paintings. He remained loyal to painting all his life. In 1919 he published his first collection of poems, entitled Preludes . The poems read by Marinetti during Futurist evenings in Italy and abroad brought Mainardi wide popularity. In 1921 and 1922 further volumes of poetry appeared .

In 1923 Enzo Mainardi was elected Mayor of Casalmorano and in 1925 Mainardi founded the futuristic monthly La Scintilla (the spark). Due to a conflict with Roberto Farinacci , Mainardi was forced to give up the office of mayor and to leave the province, changed his place of residence several times, including Cremona, and finally stayed in Milan.

Mainardi married Maria Soldi and became the father of Maria Giovanna and Danilo. In 1947 he returned to Cremona, where he stayed until his death.
