The eparchy of Shymkent and Taras ( Kazakh Шымкент және Тараз епархиясы , Russian Чимкентская и Таразская епархия ) is an eparchy of the Russian Orthodox Church in Kazakhstan . She is a member of the Kazakhstan Metropolitan District. The eparchy, founded in 1991, includes the city of Shymkent and the areas of Qysylorda , Shambyl and Turkistan .
The metropolitan of the eparchy is Archbishop Jelewferij (* 1953; real name Jurij Feofanowitsch Kosores , Russian Юрий Феофанович Козорез ). The cathedral city of the eparchy is Schymkent , in which the St. Nicholas Cathedral is also located.
