The Eppendorfer Mühlenteich in Hamburg was created by the damming of the Tarpenbek before it flows into the Alster . The Eppendorfer Mühlenteich is located in the Eppendorf district and is surrounded by an idyllic strip of green. Here the Hamburg Alster swans spend the winter in a fenced-in area that is kept free of ice by a circulation pump and that attracts many other water birds when it is permafrost; the "swan father" also takes care of waterfowl who have had an accident here. Many gray herons from the nearby colony in Bramfelder See (near Ohlsdorf cemetery ) can be found in the trees on the shore . The Eppendorfer Mühlenteich is designated as a restricted zone in accordance with the state fishing regulations; angling is expressly prohibited.
