Equinoxe Infinity is the 20th studio album by French musician Jean-Michel Jarre and also an anniversary album. It was released on November 16, 2018 on Sony Music.
Specialty
Equinoxe Infinity celebrates the 40th anniversary of the original Equinoxe from 1978 and was released on the same day, November 16th, as the original album. Thematically, it deals with the so-called watchers , who have been observing the technological development and the development of artificial intelligence in particular for an indefinite period of time . As a special feature, Equinoxe Infinity was released with two different coverarts despite identical barcodes , which should represent two possible effects of such a development. Unless you choose a variant when buying it directly in a shop, chance decides which cover art you get.
Version 1 shows a peacefully designed picture in which the rock observers are apparently in harmony with the green mountain landscape under a blue sky. Version 2 an apocalyptic, which the observers position in a fiery red desert world. Standing in front of it is a headless person with flames blowing from his throat. Electronic components and cables protrude from the inhospitable desert soil.
Jean-Michel Jarre stated that he was inspired by these images. He designed the new chapter of Equinoxe as a soundtrack of imaginary scenarios, with a view to the development of artificial intelligence that can independently create art and music and the possible role of humans in it.
