The Erasmus Chapel is located in northern Saarland in the center of the village in Bergweiler bei Tholey . It is dedicated to the saint and martyr Erasmus of Antioch .

history

The chapel was rebuilt in 1784 in the style of a small baroque hall church with a turret . In 1971 a morgue with two burial chambers was built on the right side wall , which was used until the construction of the new funeral hall at the Bergweiler cemetery in 1996.

This extension was demolished in 2014 as part of the restoration of the chapel. For this reason there is no second window on this side of the chapel today.

The chapel is part of the “Three Chapel Hiking Trail”, which was opened in 2019, around Bergweiler.
