Joseph Harold Williams (* the thirtieth March 1947 in Center , Texas , USA ) is a former American American Football- players. He played as a running back in the National Football League (NFL) with the Dallas Cowboys and the New Orleans Saints .
Player career
College career
Joe Williams attended high school in his hometown . As a football player, he received a sports scholarship at the University of Wyoming and played college football for the Wyoming Cowboys . In 1966, 1967 and 1968 he was able to win the league championship with his team.
Joe Williams was politically active in college . Together with other dark-skinned teammates, he wanted to protest against the racist prejudice of Mormonism against dark-skinned people in a game with his team . In addition, they wanted to wear a black bracelet in a game against Brigham Young University in 1969 . The protest was stopped by his college. He and his teammates, including the future professional player Tony McGee , were banned.
Professional career
The sporting achievements of Joe Williams drew the attention of the NFL scouts to him. In 1970 , the Tom Landry coached Dallas Cowboys pulled him in the twelfth round in 309th place. Williams only came into use in 1971 . He won the Super Bowl with the Cowboys that year . After eleven wins from 14 games, the Dallas team moved into the play-offs under the leadership of their two quarterbacks, Craig Morton and Roger Staubach . After a 14: 3 win over the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game, they made it into Super Bowl VI . In this game there was a 24: 3 victory over the Miami Dolphins . After the game round, Williams was given to the New Orleans Saints. After the 1972 season he took part in the training of the Los Angeles Rams , but was released before the start of the season. Williams then founded his own company. He was honored by the NFL in 2016 for his athletic achievements as a high school football player.
