Erbele is a text editor for macOS Sierra . Different programming languages are supported, for which Erbele also masters syntax highlighting . Erbele has been developed by Andreas Bentele since 2016.

The program is based on Fraise, which has not been further developed or released since 2010 and is not compatible with macOS Sierra . Fraise is based on Smultron . Erbele is the Swabian word for forest strawberry , which also adorns the program's logo. This name is based on "Smultron", which also means forest strawberry in Swedish.

Erbele is available as open source software for free download.
