Earthquake diplomacy
The expression earthquake diplomacy denotes the possibility of achieving rapprochement even in the case of profound differences between states by providing assistance in the event of a natural disaster .
Examples of earthquake diplomacy are the aid given by Greece after the earthquakes in Gölcük and İzmit in Turkey in August 1999 and vice versa after the earthquake in Athens in September 1999. Another example is the aid provided by the USA after the devastating earthquake in Bam in Iran in December 2003 .
