The Erftmühlengraben is a canal around the historic old town of Neuss . It was once located between two rings of city walls.
It branches off from the Obererft in the eastern part of the New City Garden between the City Hall and the Rosengarten to the left and northwest. It runs along the Wierstraetweg with the Alte Post and the Hamtorwall. The open run ends at the place at the Niedertor.
According to a historical city map from 1920, it then turns underground to the right and flows between Hafenstrasse and what was then Rheinwallstrasse to Basin I of the Neusser Hafen . Overall, it has a length of around 1.8 km and an absolute gradient of less than 7 meters in altitude, i.e. less than 4 ‰ mean bed gradient .
The canal and its catchment area are located in the sub-area Neusser terrace strip (!) Of the natural area Middle Lower Rhine Plain in the Lower Rhine lowlands .
