Career
Hegenwald had been a schoolmaster at Pfäfers monastery and took part in the First Zurich Disputation as a follower of Ulrich Zwingli . About it he wrote a report with the title action of the meeting in the praiseworthy city of Zurich on the 24th day of Jeners 1523, from because of ie Evangelii . This was printed several times in the same year.
On Friday after Epiphany in 1524 appeared Wittenberg a broadsheet of Hegewald with the song mercy on me, O Lord God, according to thy great mercy of, a paraphrase Psalm 51 Miserere mei Dominus . The song was included in the Erfurt Enchiridion and other hymn books .
From Wittenberg, Hegenwald stayed in contact with Reformation circles in Zurich, as evidenced by a letter to Konrad Grebel on January 1, 1525.
In 1526 Hegenwald received his doctorate in medicine in Wittenberg . It is not certain whether the author is identical to the Frankfurt city doctor of the same name, who worked there from 1528 to 1540.
