Eric Hutchinson

Eric Russell Hutchinson (born June 19, 1965 in Launceston , Tasmania ) is a right-wing conservative politician of the Liberal Party of Australia and has held the office of administrator on Norfolk Island in an Australian suburb since 2017 .

Early life

Hutchinson grew up and went to school in Launceston. He completed his studies with an associate degree . He and his wife Amanda have two sons. Eric Hutchinson worked as a referee in Australian football and was active as a mountain biker .

Hutchinson worked for various companies that export wool worldwide, including 12 years in Melbourne and then 16 years in Tasmania.

After successfully running for the Liberal Party in the 2013 general election in Australia in the Tasmanian constituency of Lyons , he was a member of the Australian House of Representatives . He lost his seat in the House of Commons in Australia's general election in 2016 .

On April 1, 2017, Hutchinson became an administrator on the island under the 2016 Norfolk Island Administrator Ordinance . He was appointed by the Governor General of Australia and the Federal Executive Council for a period of two years and in February 2019 his tenure was extended for a further two years. Hutchinson resides in the historic Gouvernment House in a Grade II listed building in the Kingston and Arthurs Vale Historic Area .

In March 2020, Hutchinson feared a COVID-19 pandemic on Norfolk Island and imposed a lockout for a period of 32 days, which he extended to June 31, 2020 after the deadline on April 21, 2020.
