history

The building was built between 1868 and 1870 under the direction of the Royal Building Inspector Stappenbeck and cost around 9500 thalers and around 2000 thalers in benefits. The masonry work was directed by the master mason Thiele, the carpentry work by the master Hahn together with the master carpenter Pank. The new building replaced a predecessor made of field stones that had become too small and had a simple, wooden church tower . The surrounding property was still used as a cemetery at that time. The consecration of the church could be celebrated on February 7th, 1870. The building was the model for the Grüna village church , which was built in 1873 and 1874. In 1890 the parish had a sacristy and a side entrance added.

In the Second World War , the church tower was damaged and rebuilt for a shorter period. The interior was redesigned during the GDR era . The pulpit and fifth were removed, and in 1959 a winter church was built under the gallery . The partition wall was replaced by a glass wall in 1995. In the same year the roof received a photovoltaic system .

Building description

West portal

The structure was essentially built from bricks on a surrounding field stone base . The choir is strongly drawn in and has a five-eighth ending . In each field there is a high, double-profiled pointed arched window, with buttresses double-stepped in between . There are two extensions to the side, each with an ogival window to the east and another buttress at the corners. At the transition to the roof is a circumferential haunch . The staggered gable is separated from the choir by a frieze that opens downwards . It is divided into seven segments, which are decorated with pinnacles . Inside there are ogival screens , each of which has two ogival screens, and a circular screen above.

This is followed by the nave to the west . The north and south walls are comparatively simple and consist of five large tracery windows in profiled walls. On the west side there are buttresses, over which there is another stepped gable with blinds and pinnacles.

The church tower is strongly drawn in opposite the nave. It has a rectangular floor plan and can be entered from the west through a large, rectangular portal. Above is an ogival panel, each with small windows. Above it is a wheel window . On the north and south sides there is a small, high rectangular window. The middle floor is optically structured with pilaster strips . In the lower part there is a small pointed arch window on the three accessible sides. Above that are three coupled pointed arch windows on each side; above a frieze that opens downwards. The bell storey is above another cornice. It consists of two side panels with a sound arcade in between . The tower ends with a transverse gable roof with a cross on top.

Furnishing

The church furnishings essentially come from the time after the renovation in the early 1950s, the stalls and the gallery from the construction period. A special feature is a Gothic winged altar from 1516, which hung in the entrance area of the tower until 1912. In 1925 it was restored by the H. Käler sculpture workshop from Berlin and placed in the chancel . It bears the inscription: "Anno domini 15 and in the 15th year of the Sunday after Corpus Christi this Thaffel speech is made dorch Hermann Herwich, fellow borrower." Through dendrochronological investigations, the year 1497 was found for the veil board , for the side wings 1488 and the period from 1429 to 1433 can be determined for numerous pieces of pine wood. The altar was restored again from 1997 to 1999. In the predella it shows the fourteen helpers who are grouped around Mary . The crucifixion of Christ can be seen in the main field . The wings show other scenes from the Bible.

Albert Lang created the organ in 1869 for 700 thalers. The instrument has a manual and eight registers .

A memorial to the north of the church commemorates those who died in the world wars.
