Eric John Stanbridge (born May 28, 1942 in London ) is a British microbiologist and Distinguished Research Professor at the University of California, Irvine . His field of work is the molecular genetics of human cancer .

Career

Stanbridge studied biology from 1960 to 1962 at Brunel University , where he graduated with the Higher National Certificate (HNC, roughly equivalent to a Bachelor's degree ). From 1960 to 1965 he also worked as a technical assistant at the National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR) in London and from 1965 to 1967 as a research assistant at the Wistar Institute in Philadelphia . There he worked with Leonard Hayflick , among others . At Ewell College he studied from 1967 to 1968. There he graduated with a master's degree. From 1968 to 1969 he returned to the NIMR as a research assistant. Stanbridge wrote his dissertation ( Interactions between mycoplasmas and human cells in culture ) from 1969 to 1971 at Stanford University , for which he subsequently obtained a Ph.D. received. Until 1975 he was a research assistant at Stanford. He then went to the University of California, Irvine as an assistant professor. In 1978 he became an associate professor there . Since 1982 he has been a full professor at Irvine.
