Eric Koston (born April 29, 1975 in Bangkok , Thailand ) is an American street skateboarding professional with Swedish and Thai roots. In his career he has already had a number of successes at the X Games , the Gravity Games and other well-known skateboarding competitions.

Career

When Koston was 14 years old, he met professional skater Eddie Elguera, who then sponsored him with his skateboard company. He was also inducted into the legendary H Street team and skated in San Diego for six months . In 1992 he left school and moved to Los Angeles , where he founded the Switchstanceskateboarder . Koston managed to make a name for himself with leading skate companies through his innovative skating, recognized by experts as particularly stylistically recognized, and several video parts. Koston is particularly known for his switch tricks , i.e. the ability to perform a skateboard trick in the wrong foot position. A common rumor is that Eric Koston invented the K-Grind , also known as the Crooked Grind . In this case, the K stands for the first letter of his surname. However, this rumor has been denied by Koston himself several times. The Crooked Grind was instead invented by Dan Peterka, who was on the same skate team as Koston, who only added the trick to his repertoire.

Today Eric Koston is one of the most famous personalities in street skateboarding. He is also a playable character in the computer and console games Tony Hawk's Skateboarding and EA’s Skate 2 . He also designed his own collection of skate shoes for éS Footwear . Koston is also able to achieve good placements at important contests every now and then with an amazing consistency.

At the beginning of 2006 he left his long-term sponsor éS Footwear and switched to Lakai. He left the company in 2009 and is now driving for Nike SB .

Koston is sponsored by Girl Skateboards , among others . His video parts are regularly milestones (such as Mouse , Menikmati or Yeah right ). He has always set new standards in the scene and is seen by many as one of the best street skaters of all time.

Eric Koston and Steve Berra have been running The Berrics website since 2008 . With around 14,000 members who have created their own profile on MyBerrics and can exchange pictures and videos there, many people like it, not least because of the daily updates from various categories on the subject of skateboarding (for example Trickipedia Tuesdays , Battle at the Berrics or Skate or Dice ), considered to be the most influential skateboarding website out there.

Eric Koston is the founder and owner of the fashion company Fourstar Clothing together with Guy Mariano .
