Eric L. Haney (* 1952 in Georgia ) is a former American elite soldier and was a member of the Delta Force from the beginning and most recently Command Sergeant Major of the 193rd Infantry Brigade.

Life

Haney enrolled in the United States Army in 1970 and was one of twelve soldiers who successfully completed Delta Force training in 1978. Before he was selected for training, he was a squad leader in a ranger battalion . He became a member of the US commando unit in 1978 and served there for eight years.

Haney was involved, among other things, in the failed Operation Eagle Claw and was deployed in Grenada as part of the US invasion . During the deployment of US and French troops in Beirut he fought to his specifications snipers .

Today he works as a security advisor in South America and the Middle East, among other things to protect the Saudi royal family .

Inside Delta Force

About his experience with the Delta Force, he wrote the book Inside Delta Force , which was translated into several languages and filmed in a 69-part television series by the American television company CBS under the title The Unit . In his book he paints a picture of the Delta Force that deviates from the flawless image that the US Army likes to give itself. His inside report provides an insight into the tough training and risky undercover operations against international terrorism. He also shows the initial weaknesses of the organization and reports on losses even in successful missions.

Haney is poorly regarded among Delta Force veterans for his book because he violated the code not to talk about unity and was believed to have commercial rather than historical interests that led him to publish his book.
