Eric M. Moormann

Eric Maria Moormann (born January 9, 1955 in Boxmeer ) is a Dutch classical archaeologist .

Life

He received his doctoraal in Classical Philology and Classical Archeology at the University of Nijmegen in 1980 . In 1986 he received his doctorate from the same university with a dissertation on the relationship between ancient sculpture and Roman wall painting. From 1987, Moormann worked as a lecturer in Classical Archeology at the Universiteit van Amsterdam . In addition, he held various positions abroad: from 1992 to 1997 he worked as archaeologist and interim director at the Nederlands Instituut te Rome , 1997 at the University of Bologna , and from 2000 to 2001 he was interim director of the Netherlands Institute in Athens .

Since 2002 he has been Professor of Classical Archeology at Radboud University Nijmegen . He is actively involved in excavations in the Via Appia and is a specialist in the field of archeology in Rome, Pompeii and Herculaneum.
