Erich Mäder Glass Museum, main building in the town center

The Erich Mäder Glass Museum is a museum in the Lower Saxony Green Plan . It shows the early history of the manufacture of glass in Hils from the Middle Ages to the early modern period . The museum is named after the former director of Deutsche Spiegelglas AG , Erich Mäder.

description

The Erich Mäder Glass Museum presents its collections in two buildings. In the main building in the center of the town, glass production from antiquity to the present is shown. Furthermore, medieval and early glassworks in Hils are treated. Another museum building is a former glassmaker's house in the historic district of Grünenplan. It shows the development of Grünenplan from 1744 as a glassmaking site with the mirror glass factory Grünenplan . Glassmaking equipment is exhibited there and local aviculture is discussed.

Issued green glass

The core holdings of the museum are the collections of Erich Mäder, who was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit in 1972 in Grünenplan , and finds from excavated glassworks, such as those of the Holzen glass factory and the Waldglashütte unter dem Hilsborn .

For the International Museum Day 2015, the museum presented a special exhibition by the Princely Glass Manufactory on the Schorborn .

The Erich Mäder Glass Museum sees itself in its concept as a complement to the neighboring Boffzen Glass Museum , which has dealt with the glass industry for the past 150 years since industrialization .
