Erich A. Collin
Erich Abraham-Collin (born August 26, 1899 in Berlin , † April 28, 1961 in Los Angeles ) was the 2nd tenor of the vocal ensemble Comedian Harmonists .
Life
Erich A. Collin came from a Jewish family. His father was a pediatrician. Collins parents divorced in 1902 when he was just three years old. Collins' singing talent was discovered early on, and a wealthy patron gave him vocal training.
After the death of his father in 1923, Collin began studying music. During his studies he met Erwin Bootz , who brought him to the Comedian Harmonists in 1929, where he replaced Walter Nussbaum .
After the ensemble was dissolved in 1935, Collin went to Los Angeles and became a wine seller. In 1942, however, the company went bankrupt .
Because of his good contacts with Albert Einstein , Collin got an editing at a New York university. There he gave a lecture on old German music.
In 1947 he saw his wife Fernande and daughter Susan again, from whom he had been separated by the war.
Collin tried together with Harry Frommermann to build a new ensemble. Roman Cycowski refused him, however, and the new members lacked the discipline to come to the rehearsals. The project therefore failed.
In 1956, Collin started his own business with a small workshop.
On April 28, 1961, at the age of 61, he died of heart failure during an appendix operation . For the 1976 documentary about the Comedian Harmonists by Eberhard Fechner , Collins' sister Annemarie and his wife Fernande were interviewed, who gave information about his life and family history.
Heinrich Schafmeister played Collin in Joseph Vilsmaier's film Comedian Harmonists .
