He completed his theology studies at the University of Graz with a doctorate in 1991. After his habilitation (2003) for the subject of liturgical science, he is head of the VESTIGIA Manuscript Research Center at the KFU Graz and the ZEBS center for research on book and written heritage (2009). Research focuses on Eastern Christianity and Oriental liturgies, especially the Syrian and Armenian tradition.
