Erich Wagler

Erich Wagler (born September 7, 1884 in Zwickau ; † August 29, 1951 ) was a German ichthyologist . His research focus was fishery biology.

Live and act

After attending grammar school, Wagler studied natural sciences in Leipzig and Jena from 1904 to 1910 . In 1912 he received his doctorate with the dissertation “Faunistic and biological studies on free-swimming cladoceros of Saxony”. phil. In 1920 he completed his habilitation with the thesis "On the systematics, the geographical distribution and the dependence of Daphnia cucullata Sars on physical and chemical influences of the milieu" at the University of Leipzig . From 1920 to 1926 he was a private lecturer in zoology at the mathematics and natural sciences department of the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Leipzig. From 1926 to 1932 he was a non-scheduled adjunct professor for zoology at the mathematical and natural science department of the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Leipzig. In 1926 Wagler became head of the Institute for Lake Research in Langenargen . Here his main focus was primarily on the biology of fish and fishing, especially the Coregons . Through numerous studies in various foothills of the Alps, Wagler was able to prove, for example, that the fishermen's catches cannot be readily used for growth analyzes and that the straightening of the Ammer had a negative impact on the living conditions of the Ammersee-Kilch .
