Erick Thohir
Erick Thohir (born May 30, 1970 in Jakarta ) is an Indonesian businessman and Indonesian Minister for State Enterprises since October 2019.
life and career
Thohir was born the son of Teddy Thohir, co-owner of the Astra International conglomerate , together with William Soeryadjaya. His brother Garibaldi Thohir is an investment banker. Thohir also has a sister, Rika Thohir.
As a child, the young Thohir had contact with the family business. In 1993 he received his Masters degree in the United States .
After his return to Indonesia he founded the Mahaka group together with Muhammad Lutfi, Wisnu Wardhana and R. Harry Zulnardy . In 2001, bought Mahaka Group , the newspaper Republika , which in 2009 was facing bankruptcy. Because of Thohir's experience in the communications industry, he was chosen to run the newspaper. He received support from his father and the founders of the Kompas and Jawa Pos newspapers , Jakob Oetama and Dhalan Iskan.
The Mahaka Group later acquired the Chinese- focused Harian Sin Chew Indonesia newspaper, a local Sin Chew Daily newspaper .
According to a 2009 Jakarta Globe report , Thorir's media holding company owns several lifestyle and sports magazines, including a + , Parents Indonesia and Golf Digest . It also owns Harian Sin Chew Indonesia and Republika newspapers , JakTV television , GEN 98.7 FM , Prambors FM , Delta FM and FeMale Radio radio stations, and various entertainment and advertising sites on the Internet. In 2011 he and his business partner Anindya Bakrie acquired the Indonesian television channels tvOne and antv as well as the news site Viva News .
Thohir is also the founder of two charities, the educational Darma Bakti Mahaka Foundation and the Dompet Dhuafa Republika .
Thohir is a co-owner of the Philadelphia 76ers . The Jakarta Post reported in 2011 that Thohir was the first Asian to own a proportion of an NBA team. He is also the owner of the Indonesian basketball teams Satria Muda BritAma Jakarta and Indonesia Warriors and is currently President of the Southeast Asia Basketball Association .
In 2012, Thohir and Jason Levien became the new owners of DC United , a major league soccer club. As of October 2013, International Sports Capital , an investment group led by Thohir, owned 70% of the shares in the Italian football club Inter Milan . Thohis was President of Inter Milan until October 201i.
In October 2019 he was appointed Indonesian Minister for State Enterprises.

Thohir is the father of four children.
