Ericka Frederick

Ericka Frederick (born around 1970) is an American film producer. The short film By Courier , which she produced together with Peter Riegert , was nominated at the 2001 Academy Awards in the category of Best Short Film (Live Action) .

Life

Frederick graduated from the University Liggett School in Grosse Pointe with her 12th grade in 1986 . In 1992, after six years of study, she earned a bachelor's degree with a major in modern dance from the University of Michigan . During her studies she became interested in film as she used films as a background for her dances. Her thesis was also a film called Carriers , which connected thrown ceramic pots with a dancing female figure. While still a student, she founded her own production company in Detroit , called Sluggo Films . She produced music videos and commercials, among other things. After graduation, she moved to North Carolina, where she also worked in the music video and advertising film industries.

She also worked in the sales and marketing department of Eastman Kodak for 14 years . She moved to New York for this job. In 1998 she met Peter Riegert , one of the jurors, at the Rhode Island International Film Festival . They became friends and together produced By Courier , a 13-minute film based on a short story by O. Henry , set in 1910. This was nominated for an Oscar. In 2012 she received her Masters in Film from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee . She currently (at least since 2013, as of 2016) works in the Recruiting and Public Relations Department of the Peck School of the Arts at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She has also been Managing Director of Medtoon since 2013 . This tries to explain medical processes to children with the help of animated short films.
