Erik Bruhn

Erik Bruhn (born October 3, 1928 in Copenhagen , Denmark as Belton Evers , † April 1, 1986 in Toronto ) was one of the most important ballet dancers of his time. For years he was the partner of the Russian ballet star Rudolf Nureyev .

From 1967 to 1972 Bruhn was the director of the Royal Swedish Ballet. From 1983 he was Artistic Director of the National Ballet of Canada .

Erik Bruhn died at Toronto General Hospital at the age of 57. His death is seen in connection with lung cancer, but according to Pierre-Henri Verlhac he could also have died of AIDS. He is buried in an anonymous grave in the Mariebjerg cemetery in Gentofte, a suburb of Copenhagen.
