Erik Josefsson

Erik Josefsson has been Head of the Electronic Frontier Foundation's European office in Brussels since 2007 . By then, the Swede had already been fulfilling a similar task since 2000 as the “permanent representative of the Friends' Association for a Free Information Infrastructure in Brussels”.

In 2000 and 2002, the civil rights activist successfully fought against an amendment to the European Patent Convention forced by the German politician Brigitte Zypries and the threatened introduction of software patents in the EU ("Directive for computer-implemented inventions"). He and his colleagues succeeded in maintaining the protection of open content software. As a representative of the FFII, he and Florian Müller received the “CNET Networks UK Technology Award” in the category “Outstanding Contribution to Software Development”.

Before he was employed in Brussels, he was chairman of the Swedish FFII Association.

His work is supported by the Shuttleworth Foundation ( Ubuntu , Thawte ). He is a member of the Scandinavian Linux user group SSLUG. In 2004 he was voted one of the 50 most influential people on the Swedish IT scene by the Swedish IT magazine “NyTeknik”. He is a speaker at numerous events ("Summit", "GUADEC", "Holland Open Software Conference").

Little is known about his personal life, with the exception of his preference for "political music" and the fact that he can play the double bass .
