Erik Van Nevel is a Belgian singer and conductor . He is a nephew of Paul Van Nevel .

Live and act

He studied music at the Lemmensinstituut in Leuven , the Royal Conservatory of Brussels and the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp .

Van Nevel is both founder and conductor of the Currende Choir , the Currende Consort chamber ensemble and the Concerto Currende baroque orchestra, and also directed the Concerto Palatino wind ensemble . He was the choirmaster of the Cathedral of St. Michael and St. Gudula (Brussels) from 1983 to 2000 and founded the Cappella Sancti Michaelis there . From 1980 to 1985 he was the assistant to the conductor of the Flemish Radio Choir.

Van Nevel's focus was on Flemish Renaissance music . An important recording by him is the 10-CD series Flemish Polyphony for the book Flemish Polyphony by the musicologist Ignace Bossuyt .

He was director of the sound of the cathedral research project on acoustic and performance space conflicts.
